The Tour of Dévoluy

by foot

In 4, 5 or more days, survey the trails surrounding the Dévoluy massif.

You will take the GR93, the GR 94 and PR trails and can add several variants to your journey at your convenience. The Tour du Dévoluy is meant to be wild, demanding and exotic. Depending on the snow conditions, you can discover it from May to October.

Saint Étienne - Les Sauvas

Step 1

This first stage is probably the most alpine of the Tour. From Saint Etienne, you will head towards the Enclus and the IRAM cable car. A beautiful climb in the alpine pastures will take you to the foot of one of the giants of Dévoluy: Le Pic de Bure. You will go up the Combe Ratin, by the GR. A striking change of atmosphere; you and the stone walls will become one. You will arrive on the plateau directly at the IRAM observatory where its 12 impressive antennas that listen to the stars will leave you contemplative. You will then cross the plateau of Bure, may or may not make the return trip to the Pic de Bure and dive towards the Maison Forestière des Sauvas

Count for this stage 7 to 8 hours of walking.

Les Sauvas - La Cluse

Step 2

From Sauvas, go to La Montagne and then Rabioux before making another stop at the small village of La Cluse, the southern gateway to the Dévoluy.

La Jarjatte - Lachaup

Step 4

After having followed the Buech by the road, you will begin a long ascent to the Fleyrard hut. Take the opportunity to refill your water supply! From the hut, the ascent becomes steep to reach the only lake of the massif, the Lauzon, which you will bypass on the left. In front of you, between the Tête du Lauzon and Rocher Rond, the Col de Charnier, which will allow you to enter again in the Dévoluy. At the pass and depending on your physical condition, you can make a detour to another giant of the Dévoluy: Le Grand Ferrand (2 758 m).

Lachaup - Saint Disdier

Step 5

This much less demanding stage will take you to the village of Saint Disdier, at the bottom of the valley. You can also continue your route on a balcony and reach the village of Le Collet, passing near the Mère-Eglise chapel.

Step 6

Last step of your journey! From Saint Disdier before reaching the Collet, you can add a variant to your journey by reaching the Col de L’Aup which will offer you a magnificent view on the lake of Sautet and the majestic Tête de l’Obiou. Follow the GR to the Collet with the Pic de Bure in the background. You will dominate Saint Etienne, above the Gorges du Rif that you will descend to reach the parking of the via ferrata and join the village of Saint Etienne.
